An amateur folk-group that works at the Regional Centre in Banska Bystrica. The folklore ensemble Urpin (ilustr. image) is from the town Banska Bystrica , which is in Central Slovakian Region, in
Slovak Republic. This ensemble is the amateur artistic body which scenically compiles the
people's folklore traditions from the typical regions of Slovakia: Horehronie
and Podpolamie. It is devided into three groups:
In its programm the ensemble has been focused to the typical dance, musical and singing expressions of two parts of Slovakia: "Horehronie" and "Podpolana". Horehronie is the Central Slovakian Region on the upper flow of river Hron and Low Tatras Mountains. In present repertoire are the following dance pictures: Here are shown the specific dance and musical expessions of the typical villages from this region, i.e. Helpa, Pohorela, Polomka, Sumiac, Telgart. Podpolana is the Central Slovakian Region near the hill called Polana. Among the most succefull program numbers from this region are the following dances:
The most characteristic elements rising from authentic expressions of Slovak people are shown. From point of view of the variety, the program is completed with the dances from Nothern and Eastern Slovakia. During 40 years of activity the ensemble realised 42 succesfull excursions into the European countries. The ensemble took part nearly at all the most importantfolklore festivals and from a lot of them the ensemble carried away also the highes award:Nice, Brunssum, Billingham, Middelkerke, Lublana, Fribourg, Confolens, Gorizia. Artistic and dance director since the ensemble beginning is Mr. Jan Husarik , the holder of title "The meritorious cultural worker".
